A well-known felon from New York City, dubbed the “Burberry Bandit,” has been released from jail following allegations of committing multiple bank heists.

The moniker was attributed to Cornell Neilly, age 35, after a 2012 surveillance video captured him sporting a distinct pattern linked to the luxury brand, as reported by the New York Post.

Authorities apprehended Neilly on September 15, accusing him of conducting a series of five bank robberies across New York City within one month. In every instance, Neilly is said to have handed a note to the teller demanding money, the NYPD confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The Post noted that during an August court proceeding, Judge Gershuny instructed a police officer to demonstrate weapon concealment before unexpectedly reaching for his own firearm while overseeing the case. Following this event, Gershuny was reassigned to nighttime hearings at the Manhattan Criminal Court.

In a statement to Fox News Digital, Al Baker, spokesperson for the state Office of Court Administration, mentioned, “The court system refrains from discussing specific bail decisions, be it in Criminal Court or Superior Court.”

He emphasized that most bail decisions rely on the court’s judgment regarding a wide array of considerations, aiming to evaluate the defendant’s risk of escaping trial. This judgment requires a careful review of evidence and arguments presented by both the prosecution and defense, alongside any other documents forwarded to the court.

Neilly is charged with five counts of felony robbery and is scheduled to return to court on Oct. 1, according to court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.

Neilly’s attorney did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

The NYPD confirmed the most recent charges against Neilly but did not comment on past arrests.
