Texas river flood leaves at least 13 dead and 20 children missing; camp evacuated by helicopter

The National Guard was called in on Friday in Texas following a severe river flood that led to the deaths of over a dozen individuals and carried away many children from a nearby Christian camp.

Heavy rain on Friday morning caused the Guadalupe River to rise nearly 30 feet in 45 minutes.

Officials confirmed at least 13 people are dead, including adults and children.

Camp Mystic, which had over 750 participants, reports at least 20 children unaccounted for, as stated by Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. Evacuation efforts are underway, utilizing helicopters.

The City of Kerrville Police Department has set up a local Walmart as a temporary reunion center, and shelters are now open to assist those affected.

The Red Cross is assisting, according to the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office.

Kerr County spokesperson and county Judge Rob Kelley and the Kerr County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
