The boy who lived is heading back to the big screen.
Warner Bros. has revealed plans to re-release “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” in cinemas globally as part of a year-long celebration for the film’s 25th anniversary in 2026, according to Deadline.
The studio intends to launch a worldwide theatrical release of the original film, alongside special edition merchandise and promotions across various company sectors. However, specific dates and further details are yet to be disclosed.
Released in 2001, the fantasy film introduced audiences to Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, an orphan who learns he’s a wizard on his 11th birthday before joining Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Based on J.K. Rowling’s 1997 book, the movie began one of the most successful film series in history.
Directed by Chris Columbus, the adaptation earned over $1 billion globally during its initial release, setting box office records and leading to seven sequels, three “Fantastic Beasts” spin-offs, as well as theme parks and stage shows. The original movie series amassed more than $7.7 billion worldwide across all eight films, and over 600 million “Harry Potter” books have been sold in more than 85 languages.
The re-release offers fans — many of whom grew up with the series — the opportunity to enjoy the film’s enchantment on the big screen once more, while also introducing a new generation to Harry, Hermione, and Ron’s initial journey at Hogwarts.
Warner Bros. hasn’t disclosed whether the re-release will include any restored footage, enhanced effects or other special features.
The anniversary celebration comes as Warner Bros. develops a new “Harry Potter” television series for HBO Max, with each season adapting one of Rowling’s seven books. The studio has not announced a premiere date for the series but is aiming for a 2027 release.
“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” originally premiered in theaters Nov. 16, 2001. The film also starred Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Richard Harris, Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman.
