MARIN, Calif. — Nestled on a scenic ranch in West Marin, a time-honored cheese-making establishment thrives. The Marin French Cheese Company, with its 160-year legacy, dedicates itself to preserving the land for present and future generations.

“We blend tradition with innovation. Our cheeses are crafted using age-old recipes. Our methods aren’t vastly different from those of the 1800s, but we’re open to enhancing and evolving,” explains Bonnie Kaufman, the brand manager at Marin French Cheese Co.

“There’s something truly special here. It feels timeless, whether it’s 1925 or 2025. You can simply appreciate the vast beauty and tranquility of West Marin. The lack of strong cellphone service encourages you to disconnect and value the land as it is,” mentions Kelley Levin, Hospitality Marketing Manager at Marin French Cheese Company.

The ranch allows people to come and purchase all sorts of products like cheese, wine, honey and other locally sourced products from the shop. Customers can also enjoy their purchases on the expansive property and enjoy the pond and wildlife in a peaceful landscape.

“I think everyone is always surprised to hear that we are the country’s oldest cheese company. We’re here in California, so it’s always a big surprise and we are really proud we have 160 years under our belts. We have the most years as cheese makers in this country, and then they taste the cheese, and it speaks for itself,” Levin expanded.

VELYKA NOVOSILKA, DONBAS, UKRAINE - MARCH 7: Ukrainian servicemen of the Ukrainian Volunteer Army patrol around the town of Velyka Novosilka, Ukraine March 7, 2023. The frontline around the city of Vuhledar, a strategic rail and road hub south of Bakhmut, resembles an apocalyptic scenario. Destroyed buildings and burned cars are scattered at both sides of the road. There, hidden on basements of abandoned houses, the Ukrainian Volunteer Army hold their positions against relentless attacks by Russian forces. Under the threat of the enemyâs artillery, that echoes through the village, soldiers hold their fortified positions in shifts of 12h. In recent days, they said, they have been able to repel several Russian offensives. (Photo by Ignacio Marin Fernandez/Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
