Several police officers faced assaults, with one sustaining injuries, while they were attending to a shooting incident in Chicago on Friday night, where at least five individuals were shot.
The event unfolded around 10 p.m. near the intersection of State and Randolph streets, shortly after a Christmas tree lighting ceremony, as reported by Fox 32.
According to Alderman Brian Hopkins of Chicago’s 2nd Ward, the shooting left at least five people injured, with one victim in critical condition.

Hopkins shared on X that “300 juveniles are rioting in the Loop now, with at least five victims shot and one in critical condition due to a life-threatening gunshot wound to the torso.”
He further noted that “multiple police officers have been attacked and injured with mace and stun guns, with at least one officer requiring hospitalization.”

Police have not confirmed Hopkins’ statement, including the number of victims.
The incident remains under investigation.
