Previously, the department said it wasn’t aware of Robinson making any suicidal comments.

A former federal prosecutor, Neama Rahmani, indicated to Fox News Digital that the results of a mental health assessment “suggest that he should be kept separate from the general prison population,” as Robinson remains held in a “special housing unit.”

Rahmani explained that a comprehensive mental health assessment will be performed by his defense team. This is to potentially negotiate a plea to avoid capital punishment, present an insanity or diminished responsibility defense during trial, which is difficult under Utah legislation, or to introduce mitigating factors during the death penalty phase.
