Chet Hanks says he’s stranded in Medellin, Colombia where he spent the weekend trying to resolve a passport issue.
After celebrating a friend’s birthday in Puerto Rico, the 35-year-old son of Hollywood icons Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson shared with his 600,000 Instagram followers a spontaneous visit to a friend in Colombia.
Hanks, who holds dual citizenship and was traveling on his Greek passport, faced an unexpected hurdle when he attempted to return to the U.S. Airport officials informed him that he needed a green card to re-enter the country using a foreign passport.
“They told me that to use a foreign passport, I need a green card for re-entry into America,” he explained. “But I don’t have a green card because I’m an American citizen.”
He noted that the situation might be resolved by visiting the U.S. embassy in Bogota, but he was reluctant to make the 250-mile journey. He had opted to leave his nearly expired U.S. passport at home to avoid any potential issues.

“So, yeah, free me,” he quipped. “Free me.”
Despite the travel hiccup, Hanks appeared to enjoy his stay in Colombia. On Sunday, he shared a video of himself singing at a local bar and a photo from a gym in Medellin.
“Estamos bien, no te preocupes,” he posted on the latter image.
That translates to “We’re fine, don’t worry.”
His famous parents aside, Hanks is best known as a singing, acting, lifestyle influencer who shares fitness tips on social media.
