Police said officers found a man armed with a large knife who was advancing toward civilians while walking in the street.

Officers reported that they issued several verbal warnings for the suspect to drop the weapon. However, the suspect moved toward them, prompting the officers to utilize Tasers, which did not have the desired effect, police stated.

After the suspect continued toward the officers, an officer fired their gun and wounded the suspect, police said.

The suspect was then transported to a hospital in serious but good condition, police said. He has been identified as 55-year-old Antonio Wallace.

Wallace is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault and possession of a weapon, CPD said.

The officers who were part of the shooting are set to be on standard administrative leave for 30 days, while the Civilian Office of Police Accountability is conducting an investigation.

The shooting came as police were also investigating a separate shooting involving an off-duty suburban officer shooting a suspect on the South Side.
