ICE in Chicago: Anarchist website targeting ICE agents, facilities, law enforcement security bulletins say

CHICAGO (WLS) — New law enforcement security bulletins claim ICE agents and facilities are at increased threat of violence from domestic extremists.

Recent alerts have emerged as federal officers report being assaulted by a vehicle caravan in Chicago over the weekend, prompting an officer to discharge their weapon.

Reports from the Center for Internet Security and the Department of Homeland Security indicate that an anarchist website in Chicago has targeted ICE agents and their facilities.

The CIS assessment reveals that at least four ICE facilities around Chicago, including one in Broadview, have been observed, with intricate layouts, diagrams, and images shared on the aforementioned anarchist website.

Also found on the website reviewed by the ABC7 I-Team were photos of ICE agents, including names, faces and badge numbers.

“There’s been a rise in efforts to collect and anonymously disseminate information online, publishing it openly on websites regarding these activities,” explained Jason Perry, a Cybersecurity professor at Lewis University.

A separate joint intelligence bulletin from the Department of Homeland Security this month warns that ICE facilities and staff are facing heightened threats from domestic violent extremists, akin to the two shooting events targeting ICE facilities in Texas last September and July.

ABC7 police affairs consultant Bill Kushner said the enhanced federal action in Chicago brings enhanced risk to immigration operations.

“These are law enforcement operations, and these officers are fulfilling their duties as sworn officials. Interference is not permissible. Resistance, particularly through violence, will only result in increased use of force to protect the officers,” stated Kushner.

One woman was shot after Federal Customs and Border Protection officers patrolling over the weekend say they were boxed in by a car caravan.

Chicago Police Department Superintendent Larry Snelling on Monday weighed in on the violence.

“It is reasonable for them to believe they are being ambushed ad it’s reasonable for them to use force based on those conditions,” he said.

Now the FBI and ATF-Chicago have issued an alert for information on the incident at 39th and Kedzie with a $50,000 reward.

“This is not a game, this is not a joke, this is still our city. And we still have a responsibility to maintain safety and calm in our city,” said Snelling.

Two people have now been federally charged in that case, as over the past week we have seen agents slam protestors to the ground.

Throw chemical irritants out of vehicles while stuck in traffic and detain elected officials while they are engaging in peaceful activity.

Kushner told the I-Team local police are trained and know how violent a crowd can be. He added, “And I don’t know if the federal agencies actually get that same level of training.”

This all comes as an alleged member of a Chicago street gang was charged late Monday in a murder for hire plot soliciting the murder of a high ranking official involved in Operation Midway Blitz, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
