Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson appoints David Glockner, former prosecutor, Exelon executive, as city's new inspector general

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has announced the appointment of David Glockner as the city’s new inspector general, a key role tasked with ensuring integrity and accountability in municipal operations.

According to the mayor’s office, Glockner has been a resident of Chicago for over four decades. His background includes experience as a prosecutor and a leadership position at Exelon, a major energy company.

“David Glockner brings a wealth of public service experience, along with the independence and integrity essential for a city watchdog,” Mayor Johnson stated. “I am grateful to the Selection Committee for their diligent efforts to promote ethical and effective governance through this process.”

This appointment follows the recent resignation of former Inspector General Deborah Witzburg earlier this month.

The Inspector General’s office plays a critical role in investigating claims of waste, fraud, and abuse within city departments and among public employees.

Glockner’s appointment will require confirmation from the City Council before it is finalized.

“The Office of the Inspector General plays a vital role in ensuring the integrity and efficiency of City government for the benefit of all Chicago residents,” Glockner said in a statement. “I am grateful to Mayor Johnson and the members of the selection Committee for the nomination and look forward to the opportunity to work constructively with Mayor Johnson, the City Council, and the OIG’s many other stakeholders to serve the City of Chicago.”
