The incident occurred around 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday in the 5700 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, located in the West Ridge neighborhood.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has named the deceased as Roberto Calvario, Jr., a resident of Albany Park.

The Chicago Police Department reported that tactical officers were investigating a parked, unoccupied stolen sedan when a dark-colored vehicle with two men and a woman pulled up next to it.

As officers approached, the two men exited the dark sedan and attempted to get into the stolen vehicle, believed to be a white BMW.

Police stated that one of the men fled on foot, while Calvario allegedly returned to the dark sedan. Despite police commands to exit the vehicle, Calvario reportedly refused, resulting in a confrontation.

During the struggle, police said Calvario accelerated the car, dragging the officer. The officer fired their gun and struck Calvario in the head while the vehicle crashed into an unoccupied parked car, police said.

Calvario was taken to Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he died.
