The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) mourned the death of a convicted murderer on the FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists list in an X post Friday.

The post from the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) read, “Rest in Power, Rest in Peace, Assata Shakur. Today we celebrate the life and impact of a revolutionary activist, a passionate writer, a respected elder in the Black liberation movement, and a leader for freedom whose influence continues to inspire our fight.”

It continued, stating, “Assata was never silenced. She taught us the importance of fighting for our freedom, uniting in love and support for one another, reminding us that we only stand to lose our chains.”

CTU is known for taking bold positions and issuing emphatic declarations. The union has previously expressed its disapproval of heightened activities by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Trump administration’s decision to deploy the National Guard to various cities in the U.S.

This month, CTU joined in a boycott against Target, accusing the company of stepping back from its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and associating it with upholding white supremacy.

“As President Davis Gates has pointed out, Target’s withdrawal sends a troubling message to those who seek to diminish the dignity and security of our students, their families, and our classrooms,” the CTU stated in a social media post.

In June, during a City Club of Chicago address, CTU President Stacy Davis Gates declared that the union views the education and welfare of all children as its responsibility.

When speaking to Fox News Digital, DeAngelis urged “rational educators who just want to do their job” to “stop giving union bosses like Stacy Davis Gates their hard-earned paychecks by opting out.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the CTU for comment on Saturday but did not immediately hear back.
