Chicago road closures: Chicago Avenue Bridge closing Monday for reconstruction project

CHICAGO (WLS) — The Chicago Avenue bridge closes Monday over the river.

It’s for a reconstruction project that’s expected to last until December 2026.

Chicago Avenue will be fully closed to all traffic between Larrabee Street and Peoria Street.

Detour routes include:

-Eastbound Chicago Avenue traffic will be detoured via North Ashland Avenue, West Division Street, and North LaSalle Drive, back to Chicago Avenue.

– Traffic heading west on Chicago Avenue will be rerouted to North Orleans Street, then to West Division Street, and subsequently to North Ashland Avenue before returning to Chicago Avenue.

The Cortland Street Bridge is also shut down for a construction project that could take two years.

Crews say they will preserve its historic character as they rehabilitate it.

The Cortland Street Bridge is between North and Webster Avenues.

And repairs to the Ohio and Ontario street bridges over the river will mean more closures.

On Sunday November 17, weather permitting, Ohio will be closed eastbound between the Kennedy and Orleans.

Starting Monday November 18, Ontario will close westbound between Orleans and the Kennedy.
