CHICAGO (WLS) — An injured Chicago police officer fatally shot a burglary suspect on the city’s West Side early Saturday morning, CPD said.
According to police, a group of suspects is accused of breaking into a vehicle in the 5500 block of West Thomas Street before escaping south on North Waller Avenue in a dark-colored sedan.

Officers who responded to the incident encountered the sedan near the intersection of Chicago and Waller avenues. The sedan collided with two marked CPD vehicles, trapping one officer who then discharged their weapon, hitting one of the suspects.
The injured suspect was transported to Stroger Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Their identity was not immediately released.
A second suspect was taken into custody and later transported to a local hospital for unknown injuries, police said.
A third suspect dropped a gun while fleeing the scene. Officers chased that suspect, who is not in custody.
Two CPD officers were transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
ABC7 cameras were on the scene, where about two blocks were closed to traffic around 6 a.m.
Squad cars have surrounded a black sedan, which has visible damage on its front end.
The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is conducting an investigation. The officers involved will be assigned to standard administrative duties for at least 30 days.
