Footage from a body camera reveals the subdued arrest of a 43-year-old man from Reedley, accused of fatally shooting his former wife and her new companion in a startling double murder in Central California.
Authorities reported that Miguel Angel Saldana Garcia was apprehended while strolling casually down the street. The video footage records his arrest shortly after 5 p.m., following the tragic incident at a residence on Brent Avenue in Dinuba.
“The Dinuba Police Department was alerted by numerous 911 calls originating from the 1200 block of Brent Avenue,” stated Police Chief Abel Iriarte to ABC 30. “Upon arrival, officers discovered a man and woman, both adults, lying in the driveway with multiple gunshot injuries.”
The deceased, identified as 51-year-old Jose Medina and 39-year-old Irai Torres, were found in the driveway and declared dead at the scene. Authorities revealed that the couple left behind several children.
Police indicated that Saldana fled the scene immediately following the shooting in a white truck.
Detectives later traced the vehicle to Reedley, where they discovered Saldana had switched cars.
A surveillance team then followed his movements back toward Dinuba.
Saldana was ultimately arrested outside the Dinuba Police Department.
Authorities have not confirmed whether he was trying to surrender at the time.
Investigators say both vehicles connected to the case have been recovered, and they believe the weapon used in the killings is now in police custody.
Search warrants are also being executed at Saldanaâs home in Reedley.
Police revealed that Saldana and Torres shared at least one child.
As the investigation continues, the Dinuba Unified School District is stepping in to support students affected by the tragedy, noting that one victim was related to a student.
“It is a tragic loss. There is just no doubt about it, and it takes time to process, and being respectful of family members and being here to support is what we are all about,” Superintendent Marti Kochevar told ABC 30.
