Chris Brown arrested in London for nightclub bottle attack

A producer with a British tabloid said Brown cracked him on the head with a bottle and punched and kicked him on the floor.

LONDON, UK — Singer Chris Brown was arrested Thursday in England for allegedly hitting someone with a bottle in a London nightclub in 2023.

The Metropolitan Police announced the arrest of a 36-year-old individual at a Manchester hotel on charges of suspected grievous bodily harm. Due to British law, suspects cannot be named publicly until they are officially charged.

The Sun broke the news, citing producer Abe Diaw who claimed he was hospitalized following an unprovoked assault by Brown at the Tape nightclub in London’s upscale Mayfair district in February 2023.

According to the tabloid, they discovered Brown was in the U.K. on Wednesday and inquired with the police regarding his detention status. Subsequently, Met officers traveled to Manchester and executed the arrest.

Brown’s representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Associated Press.

Diaw said Brown cracked him on the head with a bottle and punched and kicked him on the floor. The producer has filed a 12 million pound ($16 million) lawsuit against the singer.

Brown was on a U.K. tour at the time of the incident. He is scheduled to tour the U.K. in June and July.
