ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. — Police have charged a man from the north suburbs with the stabbing death of a woman he was staying with in a hotel room, authorities reported.

The woman’s body was discovered earlier this week near a dumpster outside the hotel in Elk Grove Village.

Authorities confirmed on Friday that the case is being treated as a homicide. An autopsy revealed that the victim succumbed to multiple “sharp-force” injuries.

The deceased has been identified by Elk Grove Village police as 50-year-old Colleen Bagley of Fox Lake.

During the investigation, 54-year-old Arturo F. Taylor, also of Fox Lake, was apprehended. He is now facing charges of first-degree murder in connection with the incident.

A suspect in her death, 54-year-old Arturo F. Taylor of Fox Lake, was arrested during the investigation, police said. He has been charged with first-degree murder.

Investigators said the two were sharing a hotel room. Taylor allegedly stabbed Bagley multiple times after a dispute in their hotel room.

Her body was found just after 4:15 a.m. Wednesday, near a refuse dumpster outside the extended-stay hotel off Landmeier and Higgins Road in Elk Grove Village, police said.

Investigators spent most of the day processing the scene. Elk Grove Village police called the death suspicious at the time, but assured the public it was an isolated incident.

“I just freaked and I couldn’t believe it,” Eva Wypych told ABC7 on Wednesday. “I saw body covered with the blanket.”

Wypych was staying at the hotel off Landmeier and Higgins Road and says she saw the body and investigators on the scene as soon as she stepped out for her early morning walk.

The Major Case Assistance Team responded alongside police. Investigators were seen going through dumpsters near the hotel, collecting multiple bags of evidence.

Wypych said hotel guests have heard reports of what may have played out, but so far investigators have not released details on the woman’s death.

“This, it just breaks my heart. People should love one another, care for one another,” Wypych said. “Nobody deserved that. We all created by God, and only God could take you.”

Police believe this was an isolated incident, and there is no threat to the community.

Taylor appeared in court Saturday for a detention hearing.

No further information was available.
