Cindy Crawford made very rare comments about ex-husband Richard Gere in her new docuseries, “The Super Models,” which is currently being streamed on Apple TV+.
“In the beginning of a relationship, when you’re a young woman, you’re like, ‘You like baseball? I like baseball. You’re really into Tibetan Buddhism? I might be into that. I’ll try that,” Crawford, 57, said, referring to Gere’s practice of the religion.
She added: “You’re willing to kind of mold yourself around whoever you are in love with.”
Crawford and the “Runaway Bride” actor, 74, famously married in Las Vegas in 1991 before announcing their split three years later. The supermodel was 22 at the time when she met the actor.
“He was older, so I just was like in a different circle, and not doing some of those same fashiony things anymore,” she said on the docuseries, which also stars Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelist.
She did, however, made a red carpet statement when the couple attended the 63rd Academy Awards together in 1991. “If I’m going to go to the Oscars, I better be a freaking supermodel. When I showed up in that red dress, I think it was a little like, ‘Wow, fashion is back at the Oscars,’” she mused.
Crawford previously opened up about their short-lived romance on “Oprah’s Master Class” in 2013. “I think a lot of what happened with Richard and I was I was still 22 and at 22 as a young woman, I was kind of still figuring out who I was and what I wanted to be… He was already 37, so in some ways he knew that I was still growing and changing,” she said at the time. “I didn’t want to hear it from him because at 22, you think you know everything and you think you’re already formed and then you realize 10 years later, you’re like, ‘Oh my gosh, they were totally right.’”
She later told Porter magazine in 2015 that the pair “didn’t spend enough time together.”
Crawford has since moved on with Rande Gerber, whom she married in 1998. The couple share daughter Kaia, 22, and son Presley, 24.
Gere, for his part, shares two sons with wife Alejandra Silva. He’s also dad to 22-year-old son Homer, whom he shares with ex-wife Carey Lowell.
