‘Washed Up’: Conservatives Torch Neil Young for Performing Predictable New Song Slamming Musk

At a recent charity concert in Los Angeles, the 70-something musician and countercultural icon performed his song, “Let’s Roll Again.” The lyrics criticize people who purchase Teslas by calling them “fascists” and commend China for leading the way in “clean car” technology. Surprisingly, this is true.

“If you’re a fascist, get a Tesla / It’s electric, it doesn’t matter / If you’re a Democrat, taste your freedom / Get whatever you want, taste your freedom,” Young sang in a clip shared on X.

Watch:

“Come on Ford, come on GM / Come on Chrysler, let’s roll again,” he added in another part. “Build something useful people need / Build us a safe way for us to meet / Build something that won’t kill our kids / Runs real clean.”

“Come on America, let’s get in the race / China’s way ahead, they’re building clean cars,” Young’s so-called song continued.

In response, conservative commentators like Mark Levin and other social media users have roundly mocked the rocker, who is now 79 and light years from his rockstar days.

“Neil Young, another washed-up slob,” Levin wrote on X,

Another person added, “Imagine 25-year-old Neil Young seeing what a boorish square he would become.”

A third person wrote, “Grumpy old man Neil Young attacks Elon Musk in his latest Woodstock boomer rock song: “If you’re a fascist, get a Tesla.”

While a fourth person added:

“He’s lived the life of a multi-millionaire with several houses for the last 50 years. Because 50 years ago he spent a couple days in a music studio with some other musicians & they all recorded some song that became popular. 50 years ago. Days. That’s his whole working career.”

Young and other folk-singing hippies like Joan Baez recently hit a rally in Los Angeles with Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) as part of the Democrat/socialist leaders’ so-called “Fight Oligarchy” Tour to rage against President Donald Trump and DOGE/Musk, RedState reported in late April:

Bernie, AOC, Neil Young and Joan Baez chanting socialist slogans and singing [Woody] Guthrie anthems to fellow collectivists might inspire the unwashed who attend their rallies, but I don’t think it moves the needle. Neil Young famously “pulled” his catalogue from Spotify over politics, and no one noticed.

When it was Young’s turn, he started with his 2019 song “Rainbow of Colors” then led a chant with the crowd yelling “Take America Back,” without explaining what he wanted to take it back to.

As many others have noted, Young hasn’t been relevant for a long time. In my opinion, the last good song he wrote came out in the late 1980s, with the 1989 hit “Rockin’ in the Free World,” which has the best pro-choice lyric I have ever heard.
