The announcement of Bad Bunny and Green Day as performers for the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show has stirred up a wave of mixed reactions across the nation. Their selection is seen by some as a controversial choice, given Bad Bunny’s vocal criticism of the Trump administration and ICE, and Green Day’s history of political commentary, often perceived as aligned with anti-Trump sentiments.
For an event that’s traditionally aimed at bringing Americans together, these performers might not resonate with everyone. As a result, it’s anticipated that some viewers might choose to divert their attention during the halftime show, opting instead for other activities.
While the halftime performance may elicit polarized opinions, one consistent highlight of Super Bowl Sunday is the commercials. Each year, companies invest millions in crafting memorable 30 or 60-second ads to captivate the vast audience. This year’s lineup promises to be no different, with a particular ad already sparking conversation and controversy.
Among the ads set to air is one likely to provoke a strong response from pro-choice advocates. The commercial in question presents alternatives to abortion for those facing unplanned pregnancies, a topic that remains deeply divisive in the national discourse.
Riley Gaines, a former college swimming star turned activist, has highlighted the significance of this ad, which adds another layer to the cultural conversations the Super Bowl is known to ignite.
It’s poignant, as former college swim star turned activist Riley Gaines noted:
New Super Bowl ad just dropped reminding women facing unexpected pregnancies that adoption is an option.
Rarely do we see an ad like this, especially during the Super Bowl. If one woman sees this & decides not to terminate her baby, then it’s worth every penny spent @LiveAction pic.twitter.com/6UexoJ4O3E

The group behind the spot, Adoption Is, posted to their website about the message they wanted to convey:
During Super Bowl LX, millions of Americans will see a powerful ad reminding our country that adoption is a real and compassionate option.
An unplanned pregnancy can feel overwhelming. Questions about the future, finances, stability, and readiness are real—and deeply personal. For some women, parenting may not be possible in that moment. Adoption offers another path: one that honors both mother and child, surrounds women with care and support, and opens the door to a future shaped by love, courage, and dignity.
Adoption is not giving up. It is choosing hope and life-giving love.

They also pointed out that to some, adoption is still a stigma.
Adoption is often misunderstood. Stigma, fear, judgment, and a lack of information often stand in the way of women who might otherwise choose this path. At the same time, thousands of families are ready to parent and waiting to adopt. And, birth mothers deserve dignity, respect, and support, before, during, and after placement should they choose it.
Lila Rose, the founder of the pro-life group Live Action, reacted by saying women who carry their babies to term should be celebrated, even if they are unable to raise the child themselves:
Adoption multiplies love.
When a mother courageously carries her baby to term and entrusts him to a family ready to offer care, stability, & a future, it becomes a profound act of sacrificial love—one that deserves to be honored & celebrated. https://t.co/zAcnSuSiWh

It’s a powerful ad, one which will doubtless prove emotional to many people and make some think about their positions. There is an alternative to abortion, and it’s a beautiful one that has saved many lives.
If you have a liberal relative nearby when it runs, though, be sure to duck. Shoes will almost certainly be thrown at televisions.
