In Tuscaloosa, Alabama, former Alabama basketball player Darius Miles is scheduled to face trial by the end of the year concerning a fatal shooting incident that occurred two years ago, resulting in the death of a young mother.
On Friday morning, Miles, aged 23, appeared in court where it was determined that his trial would commence on December 1, with jury selection anticipated to start in November.
Miles is accused of capital murder following the death of Jamea Harris, who was fatally shot near The Strip in Tuscaloosa on January 15, 2023. At the time, she was in a car with her boyfriend, Cedric Johnson. Prosecutors claim that before the shooting, there was a disagreement between Johnson and Michael Davis, and it is alleged that Miles provided Davis with the gun used to shoot Harris.
Davis has since been convicted in the case and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
During the hearing, Miles’ lawyers were given until Aug. 15 to accept a plea deal or go to trial.
