Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy expressed immense relief at having left New York City following the election of Zohran Mamdani, a socialist and Islamist, as the city’s new mayor.
After Tuesday’s election results, Portnoy informed his followers that he had already initiated plans to separate his company from New York City. He instructed his finance team to “start looking for property” elsewhere, as reported by Fox News.
“Honestly, I’ve thought about it a lot… considering Hoboken or Jersey City or somewhere similar. I just don’t want an office in New York,” Portnoy stated emphatically.
The sports media entrepreneur also expressed relief at having personally left New York.
“If this is what New Yorkers want, then that’s their choice. I’m just glad I no longer live there,” Portnoy remarked on X after Mamdani’s decisive victory.
Portnoy relocated to a $27.75 million estate in the Florida Keys in 2021. However, this isn’t the first time he’s considered moving Barstool Sports out of New York, as he had contemplated this decision before the election of the socialist candidate.
Portnoy moved to a $27.75 million estate in the Florida Keys back in 2021. But Election Day is not the first time Portnoy talked of moving his company out of New York. He also spoke about leaving the city before New Yorkers chose the socialist candidate.
The sports maven, who is Jewish, blasted Mamdani as a “communist” and “one of the worst, scariest candidates.”
“He hates capitalism, he wants a fundamental shift in what has built this country, and he doesn’t really particularly hide it,” Portnoy told Fox Business Network in July.
