Unruly Delta customer forces emergency landing in Houston, airline says

An aircraft was compelled to execute an emergency landing after a passenger engaged in what was described as “unruly and unlawful behavior,” according to information obtained by Fox News Digital.

A Delta Air Lines representative informed Fox News Digital that Delta Flight 2557, which departed from Houston’s William P. Hobby Airport bound for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, returned to Houston soon after takeoff due to the disruptive conduct of a passenger.

“Ensuring the safety of our customers and crew is our top priority, and Delta maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any unruly behavior. We extend our apologies to our customers for the inconvenience and delays experienced during their journey,” the spokesperson stated.

The Delta representative explained that the flight was diverted back at around 5:25 a.m. local time after the pilot declared an emergency. On board the Boeing 717 were 85 passengers along with five crew members.

According to a CNN report, citing audio from Broadcastify, the pilot communicated with air traffic control stating, “we had a passenger get up and try to access the cockpit.” The pilot additionally requested coordination for security to be on standby. Upon the plane’s emergency landing, it was met by law enforcement, as confirmed by the Delta spokesperson to Fox News Digital.

However, the Delta spokesperson told Fox News Digital that the passenger did not make contact with or attempt to access the flight deck, raising questions about what exactly happened. The airline spokesperson did confirm that the unruly passenger approached crew and other customers.

Houston police did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
