A Democratic lawmaker in North Carolina is behind bars this week after being charged with felonies tied to alleged sexual conduct with a minor.
State Representative Cecil Brockman, who serves Guilford County, faces charges of statutory rape involving a child aged 13 to 15, along with two counts of taking indecent liberties with a child, as revealed by court documents obtained by Fox News Digital.
The 41-year-old lawmaker is currently being held without bond at the High Point Detention Center, with a court appearance anticipated on Thursday. Jail records from Wednesday confirm his detention at the Guilford County facility.
The magistrate’s order accuses Brockman of participating in sexual activities with a 15-year-old in August and twice performing or attempting to perform “a lewd and lascivious act” on the minor, according to reports from the Associated Press.
House Minority Leader Robert Reives, D-Chatham, informed WRAL, “This is an evolving situation and it’s crucial to let the legal proceedings take their course.” He also mentioned that if the allegations are verified, “they would render him ineligible for public office.”

Republican leadership echoed those calls. House Majority Leader Brenden Jones, R-Columbus, condemned the alleged conduct.
“Such behavior is reprehensible and cannot be tolerated within the General Assembly. I am demanding Brockman’s immediate resignation,” Jones stated in a post on X.
As of Wednesday night, neither Brockman nor his legal team had released any public statement. His upcoming court appearance is set for Thursday in Guilford County District Court.
