Trump credits Las Vegas as the ‘birthplace’ of no tax on tips policy, touts up to ‘$8,000' refunds for workers

On Thursday, President Trump highlighted the advantages of his tax deductions for tipped wages during a visit to Las Vegas, the city that inspired this policy initiative.

“Las Vegas is where the concept of ‘no tax on tips’ was born,” Trump remarked at a roundtable discussion with workers who are benefiting from this new tax provision.

“This city has the highest concentration of tipped employees in the nation, and possibly the world,” he continued. “Due to our tax cuts, thousands of Nevada’s waitstaff, casino dealers, bartenders, bellhops, caddies—who I must say are excellent when you have the right one—and valets are experiencing the most substantial tax refunds of their lives.”

He concluded with, “I just want to say, ‘You’re welcome.’

According to Trump, some Las Vegas workers have received refunds of “$8,000 or more” solely from the ‘no tax on tips’ provision.

This tax deduction is part of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA), which also reduced taxes on overtime pay and vehicle loan interest, increased standard deductions, and state and local tax allowances. It also provided considerable new tax relief for businesses and senior citizens.

“Together, these brand new cuts and deductions in the Republican bill have been claimed by nearly half of all tax filers, so in one form or another, more than 50% have taken advantage of the things that we put into the bill,” Trump said.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who was at the roundtable with Trump, said 53 million filers have take advantage of at least one of the president’s signature tax cuts, including more than 6 million who claimed no tax on tips deductions.
