A 53-year-old man was injured on Tuesday night when his dog accidentally discharged a shotgun inside their Berks County, Pennsylvania home.

Authorities responded to the scene around 11:15 p.m., following reports of a shooting, as stated by local news outlet WFMZ.

During their investigation, police discovered that the man had been cleaning his shotgun and had placed it on the bed, inadvertently setting the stage for the unusual incident.

While the breed of the canine involved remains undisclosed, it appears the dog jumped onto the bed, triggering the firearm and causing a bullet to hit the man in the back.

The victim, whose name has yet to be released, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries.

The incident comes less than a month after a North Carolina assistant fire chief’s dog chewed on a lithium-ion battery, sparking a house fire.

Chapel Hill Fire Department Assistant Chief David Sasser’s dog, Colton, reportedly “counter surfed” while his owner was away, getting a hold of the less than tasty treat.
