In a surprising direct communication, President Trump instructed a reporter from The Post to “come home!!!” via text message, coinciding with his decision to cancel a scheduled diplomatic effort with Iran.
Reporter Caitlin Doornbos, who was on assignment in Pakistan, took to social media on Saturday to share screenshots of the direct message she received from Trump. This came after she inquired about the uncertain status of the negotiations.
In her message, Doornbos mentioned, “Mr. President, […] I am in Islamabad until we have definite word on the talks…”
Trump’s brief reply was: “Come home!!!”
Subsequently, Doornbos posted on X, stating that the president informed her it was time to depart from Islamabad, as the second round of US-Iran discussions was no longer happening. She added, “Thank you, Pakistan.”
The communication was sent shortly before Trump formally announced the cancellation of a US delegation’s planned visit to Pakistan for discussions with Iranian representatives.
“I just cancelled the trip of my representatives going [to] Islamabad, Pakistan, to meet with the Iranians,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, citing wasted travel time and disarray among Iranian leadership.
He added: “If they want to talk, all they have to do is call!!!”
