Police say two victims were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One was a minor.
BAKER COUNTY, Fla. — A double shooting has been reported in Baker County Thursday night.
The shooting happened at South Boulevard and 9th Street in Macclenny, according to the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
Two people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Undersheriff Randy Crews said one is a minor and the other is an adult.
Crews said one victim was shot in the leg, while the other is considered in life-threatening condition.
The sheriff’s department has confirmed the detention of two people, while authorities are actively looking for two more for questioning. Investigators suspect that several shooters and weapons were involved.
Residents in the area noted that what initially seemed like fireworks turned out to be gunshots, which were soon followed by a significant police response and the arrival of a medical helicopter nearby.
Brian Wallstedt, a longtime Baker County resident, told First Coast News he is troubled by the recent violence.
“Stop this nonsense,” he urged. “Stop this nonsense. Let’s work towards resolving issues and aim to become a united community once more, without the frequent occurrence of gun violence and shootings.”
The area around South Boulevard and 9th Street remained closed for several hours following the shooting.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
