JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced on Monday that a man is now stable after being shot multiple times while in his vehicle, which subsequently crashed into a light pole in the Lakawanna neighborhood.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, officers responded around 8:18 p.m. on Sunday to reports of gunfire near the 200 block of Shortreed Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered a man in his car with several gunshot wounds to the torso.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department promptly transported the victim to a nearby hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
Initially unable to speak with the victim due to his critical state upon arrival at the hospital, the Sheriff’s Office stated that their preliminary investigation indicates the victim was seated in his car when an “unknown black male suspect” approached from behind and opened fire.
Following the shooting, the victim attempted to escape but crashed into a light pole.
