Writer and director James Sweeney is taking viewers on a wild ride in his new movie “Twinless,” where he also co-stars alongside Dylan O’Brien.
“Twinless” is a dark comedy that tells the story of two men who meet in a support group for twin bereavement and develop a strong connection. The film made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where On The Red Carpet interviewed O’Brien.
“I believe Sweeney drafted the initial version of this script about eight years ago. There were numerous times we doubted this project would come to fruition. It’s incredible it finally did, and it’s fantastic to have it acknowledged in this manner,” he remarked.
At the film festival, “Twinless” received the Audience Award in the U.S. Dramatic Competition, and O’Brien was honored with the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Acting.
Sweeney commented on his co-star’s success by saying, “O’Brien is an incredible actor, and I’m thrilled for audiences to witness his performance in this role. It showcases a different aspect of his talent.”
Not only did “Twinless” win big at Sundance, Sweeney was also named one of Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch this year.
“He’s genuinely a filmmaker,” O’Brien shared with us. “He considers every detail of what appears on the screen. He’s involved in all facets of the creation. Working with someone like that… And he’s a great person as well, which adds to the excitement surrounding this achievement for him.”
As for viewing the film, Sweeney advised, “I believe the best approach is to watch without prior knowledge. That’s how I prefer experiencing a movie, being pleasantly surprised by it.”
The film also stars Lauren Graham, Aisling Franciosi, Tasha Smith and Chris Perfetti.
“Twinless” hits theaters September 5.
