In a tragic incident in Louisiana early Sunday, eight young children were killed in a brutal domestic violence episode perpetrated by a disturbed Army veteran. The suspect, also a father, unleashed this horror after a confrontation with his wife.
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identities of the deceased children, following identification by their mothers. The assailant, 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, targeted his young victims in a violent spree through Shreveport that began around 6 a.m.
The victims, five girls and three boys, have been named as Jayla Elkins, 3; Shayla Elkins, 5; Kayla Pugh, 6; Layla Pugh, 7; Markaydon Pugh, 10; Sariahh Snow, 11; Khedarrion Snow, 6; and Braylon Snow, 5. All were found dead in their Shreveport residence.
Authorities revealed that Elkins was the father to seven of these children, while the eighth victim was his nephew. The specific identity of the cousin among the victims has not been disclosed.
According to Christopher Bordelon, a spokesman for the Shreveport Police Department, most of the children suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the head while they were asleep.
Tragically, one child was fatally shot while attempting to escape by climbing onto the roof, authorities reported.
Elkins, who was later killed by police, also shot and wounded two women during his murderous rage.
