Ella Emhoff, stepdaughter of former Vice President Kamala Harris, expressed her struggles with “climate anxiety” to her TikTok audience, despite having displayed a couple of plastic bags online the previous day.
The 26-year-old model and designer released a six-minute video on Friday discussing the burden of environmental concerns, although on Thursday she shared an Instagram video featuring a plastic bag on her bed and another outside a Pasadena thrift shop.
This contrast led to some criticism online, with one follower calling Emhoff a hypocrite, a point made more complex by Harris’s prior advocacy for banning single-use plastics.
In her Friday TikTok, Emhoff, known on the platform as @smellaemhoff, stated: “I think everything with the environment is really f—ing getting to me, and it is — I experience a lot of climate anxiety, like all of us do.”
Harris is stepmother to Doug Emhoff’s two kids, Ella and Cole, 30, who he shares with lawyer Kerstin Emhoff.
Harris and Doug Emhoff met on a blind date in 2013 and married in 2014. Ella was 15 at the time. Since then, she has gained recognition for her political activism and public comments.
Earlier this year, she mentioned experiencing “a little trauma” on her way to vote for socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary, held at the same polling location where she previously voted for Harris, who lost the election in November 2024.
Ella Emhoff did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
