An officer from the Duval County School District was taken into custody late Thursday following a probe conducted by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — On Friday, Duval County Public Schools revealed that a former school police officer has been arrested in connection with an alleged inappropriate “romantic relationship” with a student.

The district reported that allegations of “potentially criminal behavior” involving the officer, identified as Alexander Capasso, emerged approximately four weeks ago.

Duval County Schools’ Chief of Police, Jackson Short, quickly sought assistance from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to investigate the matter further.

Capasso, who joined the school police force in late 2025 and was not stationed at any particular school, resigned on Monday, March 2, amidst the ongoing investigation. During this time, the district noted that Capasso was “stripped of all law enforcement authority.”

Following the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued and executed Thursday evening.

“While all criminal investigations involve due process, I am deeply troubled by these allegations,” Short said a statement. “The alleged behavior is not representative of the high standards of integrity required of our law enforcement officers and does not reflect our unwavering commitment to student safety and care.”

Capasso was arrested on charges of an authority figure soliciting or engaging in a romantic relationship with a student, unlawful use of a two-way communication device and tampering with evidence.
