CHICAGO (WLS) — ABC 7 Chicago’s top-rated news team is on the lookout for a seasoned general assignment reporter who can genuinely engage and connect with our audience.

The ideal candidate should be a dynamic and captivating journalist, communicator, and storyteller, driven by a commitment to uncovering and truthfully reporting the facts. Integrity must be at the forefront of their work.

This role requires a collaborative spirit, as the reporter will work closely with producers, assignment editors, and newsroom leaders to deliver comprehensive news coverage.

Applicants must have a thorough understanding of the influential role and responsibility that broadcasters hold towards the communities they serve.

The successful candidate will report across all platforms and during various time slots, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends.

This is a full-time position, governed by the Company’s collective bargaining agreement with SAG-AFTRA.

This role is considered on-site, which means the employee will work from a company-designated location on an ongoing basis.

ABC7/WLS-TV Chicago is the No. 1 local news source and most-watched television station in Chicago. Responsibilities:

-On-air performance

-Researching, Writing and Reporting

Basic Qualifications:

-Exceptional reporting, writing and interviewing skills

-Must know how to source and generate impactful enterprise leads, and create impactful content utilizing the latest investigative tools, including data journalism.

-You must be tenacious in your ability to uncover stories through investigation and research

-Be an expert in telling high-impact stories and in breaking news coverage, and demonstrate that ability in the field

-Report, write, capture visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as owned and distributed digital, streaming and social platforms

-Active in using social media for promotion and news gathering

-Demonstrated ability to move the audience between linear and digital platforms

-A collaborative self-starter

-Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality

-Strong commitment to the community, expected to represent the station and participate at various community events

-Must be open to working early mornings, nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualification:

-Minimum 3 years of reporting experience in a large market

-Ability and knowledge of shooting and editing a plus

Required Education:

-Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with a preferred emphasis in journalism or a related field.

The pay rate for this role in Chicago, IL is $55.29 to $79.33 per hour. The base pay actually offered may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
