'Future on the front line'

In a groundbreaking military achievement, the Ukrainian army has successfully seized a Russian stronghold solely by deploying ground robots and aerial drones, marking a first in the ongoing conflict. This unprecedented victory, achieved without any infantry support, was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

During a video address to defense workers, President Zelensky revealed that the robotic forces navigated perilous enemy-occupied areas, compelling the stationed soldiers to surrender without any loss of life. He refrained from disclosing further specifics of the operation but emphasized the mission’s significance.

“The future is already on the front line, and Ukraine is at the forefront of this revolution. Our ground robotic systems are pioneering this change,” Zelensky stated, as reported by Business Insider.

In the past three months alone, these Ukrainian ground robots have executed over 22,000 missions along the front lines, President Zelensky highlighted. This technological advancement represents a strategic evolution in warfare.

“In essence, that means over 22,000 lives have been preserved,” he added, underscoring the impact of these missions.

“It is high technology safeguarding the most precious asset — human life,” he concluded, reflecting on the broader implications of this technological breakthrough in military strategy.

Ukraine reportedly has used a record number of land robots to fend off invading Russian forces, as the war-torn country continues to ramp up its use of killer droids on the battlefield.

“The frontline is more like Terminator,” a drone operator with Ukraine’s 25th airborne brigade, named Bambi, told The Guardian earlier this month. “A land robot arrives at your position and there is nothing you can do about it.

“You can shoot a person in the chest and they stop firing. If you shoot a ground robot it doesn’t feel pain.”

Kyiv first deployed ground robots to the battlefield in 2024 and in the past two years, the use of robots shot up exponentially — with production increasing nearly sixfold in 2025, emerging as the fastest growing part in Ukraine’s defense technology sector.
