Leaked text messages published by Project Veritas have sparked a fresh controversy over alleged political blackmail targeting conservative commentator Candace Owens.
Project Veritas has released a series of messages purportedly linked to Mary Barr Daly, the daughter of former Attorney General William Barr and a former senior official at the Department of Justice. These messages, according to the group, suggest an orchestrated effort to tarnish the reputation of conservative commentator Candace Owens. The messages also allegedly mention a separate operation involving an underage girl.
As reported by the International Business Times, the leaked texts have swiftly spread across the internet, sparking intense debate regarding their authenticity and origin. Screenshots shared by Project Veritas appear to show Daly discussing strategies to aggressively counter Owens. One message allegedly reads, “We need to blackmail her faster,” while another describes Owens as a challenging adversary, urging associates to “ruin her reputation before she reaches us.”
In response, representatives for Daly have categorically denied the authenticity of these texts. Project Veritas noted that Daly’s representatives have labeled the messages as fabricated, and highlighted that no legal action has been taken by any of the involved parties thus far.
The alleged messages also allude to a separate plot involving an underage girl targeting an unspecified individual, which has stirred significant concern on social media platforms. According to IBTimes, one social media user likened the use of an underage girl for leverage to “literally EPSTEIN behavior,” while others speculated about the identity of the intended target and the origins of the minor involved.
Lauren Witzke, a film producer and commentator, has come out in support of Project Veritas, amplifying the allegations in a widely circulated X post. In her post, Witzke claimed that Project Veritas had uncovered attempts by Daly, then a senior DOJ official, to blackmail Owens. She further alleged that Daly was also involved in a scheme to use an underage girl for blackmail purposes.
Project Veritas framed the matter in broader terms, asserting that Owens “has been a target of governments for years.” In its own X post promoting the screenshots, the group highlighted the alleged Daly line, saying, “We need to blackmail her (Candace) faster” and identifying Daly as a “former senior DOJ official, daughter of former AG Bill Barr.”
Online reaction to the leak has been sharply divided. Some users cited in the IBTimes report argued the texts reveal a “government willing to engage in covert operations against citizens,” with one commenter calling it “insane that they weren’t arrested for conspiring against American citizens.”
As of now, the authenticity of the texts remains unverified. Daly’s side has reportedly branded the messages as fabricated, while Project Veritas and its supporters insist they expose a coordinated effort to neutralize a high-profile critic of the establishment.
