Candace Owens says a Turning Point USA attorney revealed the organization has no evidence beyond an affidavit to support the claim that Tyler Robinson shot Charlie Kirk, directly contradicting high-profile commentators who have described the case against Robinson as “overwhelming.”
In a detailed breakdown, Owens told her audience she went into a private meeting with TPUSA hoping to walk out able to say with confidence that “Tyler Robinson shot Charlie Kirk,” but the attorney’s explanation left her with the opposite impression.
Owens disclosed that she initiated a meeting with the intention of confidently informing her audience that “Tyler Robinson shot Charlie Kirk.” She believed it was conceivable that Turning Point USA (TPUSA) possessed clear surveillance footage. However, after the meeting, she stated, “what I got from the lawyer did not make me feel that Tyler Robinson shot Charlie Kirk.”
Lawyer Reveals Only Affidavit Exists
During the call, TPUSA introduced one of their legal representatives, part of a “team of lawyers” assigned to the case, Owens recounted. She pressed the lawyer for concrete evidence, assuring him that she would keep sensitive information confidential to maintain the case’s integrity. Despite her efforts, the attorney conceded that they relied solely on the affidavit as evidence.
Owens highlighted that the lawyer described the situation as being at “the affidavit stage,” a phase where investigators actively seek more data. He explained that authorities typically do not disclose their findings to victims at this juncture and that they would remain uninformed about the investigators’ discoveries until a probable cause hearing scheduled for May.
Currently, the case remains at the “affidavit stage,” with investigators actively seeking further information. They have yet to share any findings with the victim, identified as Erica. Insights into the investigation will only become available during the May probable cause hearing, leaving the public and those involved in the dark for now.
“They have not seen anything that you have not seen. It’s what I want you to know,” Owens emphasized.
Owens Calls Out Public Gaslighting
Owens then openly challenged the narrative put forth by TPUSA-aligned figures and other right-wing commentators. She questioned, “Why are you signaling, why do I feel like the public is being gaslit on this? There’s been nothing that’s convincing.” She criticized pundits who claimed the evidence was “overwhelming,” particularly questioning the credibility of text messages that appeared undated and inauthentic, asking, “the text messages that don’t have a date, that don’t even sound real, that’s overwhelming?”
Owens urged commentators to stop misleading their audiences and instead be honest about the current state of the case. “I really do wanna say that to every commentator that is out there trying to tell the public and insisting that if you say it enough times to become real, you’re actually just being dishonest.”
Until then, Owens remains steadfast in her skepticism, emphasizing the lack of concrete evidence beyond the affidavit. While she believes Robinson was involved, she asserts that she is “very confident stating the opposite” of her “well-paid peers” in concluding, “I don’t believe that Tyler Robinson pulled the trigger.” This stance highlights a growing rift within conservative commentary circles while underscoring the need for greater transparency as the investigation proceeds toward the May probable cause hearing.
