In an unexpected move, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has announced a temporary grounding of all flights at El Paso International Airport. This decision, which took effect on February 10, will remain in place until February 20.

According to the FAA, this measure has been implemented due to “special security reasons.” However, specific details about the security concerns have not been disclosed to the public. The restriction impacts the airspace surrounding the airport but notably does not extend to Mexican airspace.

Shortly after the restrictions were announced, El Paso International Airport took to its social media platforms to inform travelers of the situation. The advisory confirmed the suspension of all commercial, cargo, and general aviation flights, urging passengers to stay updated on further developments.

As the situation unfolds, affected travelers are encouraged to monitor official channels for any changes to the current status. The FAA has yet to provide additional information, leaving many to speculate about the nature of these security concerns.

No details were provided as to the nature of the security concern.

El Paso International Airport posted a travel advisory on its social media pages shortly after midnight Mountain time, stating that all commercial, cargo and general aviation flights have been grounded.

“Travelers should contact their airlines to get most up-to-date flight status information,” the advisory stated.

Several military bases are located near the airport, including the White Sands Missile Range, Holloman Air Force Base, Fort Bliss and Fort Bliss-McGregor Range.

This story is developing and may be updated as information becomes available.
