The family of a 15-year-old boy, who tragically was struck by a truck on his journey to school in central Victoria on Friday, remembers him as a “gentle, warm and loving” individual.

Thom Hosking was hit by a truck while crossing the road at a major intersection in Bendigo, just 250 meters from Girton Grammar School, around 8:30 am on October 10.

His parents, Andrew and Kim, along with his sister Charli, released a heartfelt statement today. They shared that the teenager was merely days away from beginning his first job.

“Our son, Thom Hosking, was taken from us on Friday morning while walking to school at Girton Grammar,” it reads.

“Thom’s passing is a true tragedy. At 15, he was stepping into adulthood, with so many significant milestones lying ahead. Our hearts ache knowing he’ll never get to fulfill that potential.

“As the youngest in our family, Thom held us together. He was the quiet, calm, and rational influence, always striving for harmony among us.

“Gentle, warm, and affectionate, he was both our peacemaker and guide, not only during holiday adventures but also through the challenging times in family life.”

“We need his kindness, empathy and level-head more than ever right now. But he is gone, and we know he’s not coming back.

“Thom was conscientious and fastidious – a rule-follower and a smart and dedicated student.

“An avid swimmer, Thom enjoyed gaming with friends and began going to the gym to boost his fitness. He was preluding his first part-time job beginning Monday. An aspiring guitarist, he had mastered 29 ABBA songs to play “Guitar No.2″ in this year’s Girton production of Mamma Mia the musical.”

The truck driver remained at the scene and is helping police with the investigation into the crash.
