ROBBINS, Ill. (WLS) — A man was killed in a shooting in south suburban Robbins early Friday morning, a spokesperson told ABC7.

Robbins police responded to a call about shots fired near Clair Boulevard and Maxey Court just before 4 a.m.

According to the spokesperson, officers discovered a man with several gunshot wounds. He was declared deceased at the location, though his identity has not been disclosed yet.

Chopper 7 captured an aerial view showing Robbins and Cook County sheriff’s police setting up a tent encircled by evidence markers in the residential area.

The Robbins Police Department indicated that local residents are assisting investigators as they work to determine the events that led to this fatal shooting.

Carolyn Tarochione faces a harsh truth as she acknowledges that her cousin, in his 20s, was fatally shot on the 3700 block of Maxey Court.

“You know it’s hard, very hard,” Tarochione said. “I don’t know. I was shocked and I’m like. ‘What happened?'”

Neighbors and loved ones watched the investigation unfold in front of their eyes, feet from their homes.

Sardis Lane lives near the scene and said the sound of gunfire woke him up on the normally quiet street.

“I likely heard about five shots—two followed by three more,” Lane said. “I feel sorrow for the family and am praying for their peace.”

Carletta Traylor said it is hard to believe that the shooting happened just down the street from her home.

“Honestly, it’s quite surprising. Crime can occur anywhere, no place is immune. But it’s shocking because Maxey Court is typically very peaceful,” Traylor stated.

Investigators said it is still too early to speculate on a motive for the shooting.

“We will ensure the residents in this neighborhood have answers, hopefully, as soon as possible,” said Robbins Police Department Spokesperson Sean Howard.

Police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no immediate threat to the public.

Further information was not immediately available.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office asked anyone with information to call them at 708-865-4896.
