FBI arrests alleged MS-13 member accused in El Salvador pastor’s killing

A man suspected to be involved with the notorious MS-13 gang and wanted for a pastor’s murder in El Salvador has been apprehended, according to the FBI. The arrest took place on Tuesday and marks a significant development in a cross-border criminal investigation.

The individual in question, Danny Antonio Granados-Garcia, a national of El Salvador, was residing in the United States despite being a fugitive with an active arrest warrant for aggravated homicide in his home country. FBI Director Kash Patel shared these details on the social media platform X, highlighting the gravity of the charges against him.

Granados-Garcia’s arrest unfolded in Waterbury, Connecticut, as confirmed by the FBI’s New Haven division. The operation was a collaborative effort, drawing on international partnerships to bring the suspect into custody.

By coordinating with the FBI’s Legal Attaché in San Salvador, authorities were able to confirm Granados-Garcia’s status as a wanted man, supported by an Interpol Blue Notice. The charges stem from the alleged killing of a pastor, who was notably related to a police officer in El Salvador, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

This arrest highlights the ongoing challenges and efforts in tackling gang-related crime that often transcends borders, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in law enforcement.

“Granados-Garcia was wanted for the murder of a pastor, who was a relative of an El Salvadorian police officer,” the agency added.

He was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement after he was arrested by the FBI “to facilitate his return to El Salvador to be held accountable for his crimes,” the agency said.

“MS-13 members are notorious for their brutality, violence, and intimidation,” FBI New Haven Special Agent in Charge P.J. O’Brien said in a statement.
