FBI Director Kash Patel vowed to ensure justice after two individuals allegedly assaulted a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) vehicle, highlighting a rise in nationwide turmoil.

The two individuals, Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, were labeled by DHS as domestic terrorists who “ambushed” agents in Chicago over the weekend.

Martinez was armed with a semi-automatic weapon and “ha[d] a history of doxxing federal agents,” the DHS said in a release.

“She took defensive fire from CBP agents and has been discharged from the hospital and is currently in the custody of the FBI,” the statement said.

A source from the FBI told Fox News Digital that the cases are being treated as AFOs, or assaults on federal officers.

Authorities reported that Martinez and Santos Ruiz are facing prosecution under Title 18, U.S. Code, Sections 111(a) and (b), which address federal crimes involving forcibly assaulting, resisting, or obstructing a federal officer during official duties.

The DHS announcement highlighted that the situation escalated with increasing violence as more domestic terrorists joined, launching smoke, gas, rocks, and bottles at DHS officers.

“Another domestic terrorist was arrested for assaulting a CBP officer on site,” the statement elaborated. “Due to JB Prtizker’s decision not to allow local law enforcement at the scene, Secretary Noem has sent special operations teams to reestablish order.”

Two suspects were arrested in similar incidents in Chicagoland on Friday. The suspects, Miguel Escareno De Loera and Widman Osberto Lopez-Funes, were both accused of weaponizing their vehicles in “deliberate attempts to ram and injure” ICE officers, according to officials.
