Crime Roundup with Nancy Grace: Is Diddy Controlling the Courtroom?

On Monday, Sean “Diddy” Combs’ lawyers asked a New York federal judge to sentence Combs early to 14 months, facilitating his immediate release.

Combs’ legal team noted that he had to let go of 100 employees from his enterprises, and many have struggled to secure new jobs because of their association with him. According to CBS, Combs has been under suicide watch, which requires him to show his ID to guards every two hours, and he is awakened by a guard to confirm his well-being.

“Mr. Combs’s career and reputation have been destroyed. His life outside of jail has been systematically dismantled,” his lawyers also wrote.

The attorneys also mentioned an incident where another inmate approached Combs with an improvised weapon, upset over a chair. Combs successfully de-escalated the situation, leading the inmate to drop the weapon.

Combs, who has been incarcerated for almost 13 months, was convicted in July for transporting individuals for prostitution. Following his conviction, his lawyers immediately requested his release on a $1 million bond.

Judge Arun Subramanian turned down the bond request, pointing to Combs’ own lawyers highlighting his violent conduct towards ex-girlfriends. The judge remarked on Combs’ continued violence and illegal actions even amidst a federal probe.

During the trial, the jury heard from three women accusing Combs of physical or sexual mistreatment. Cassie Ventura, in a relationship with Combs from 2007 to 2018, testified that he hindered her music career and coerced her into “freak offs,” involving sexual acts with other men in his presence.

Ventura said the drug-fueled ordeals left her sleep-deprived and dehydrated, as they would last for days on end.

An additional accuser, known by the alias “Mia,” who worked as Combs’ assistant for eight years, alleged that Combs forced her to perform oral sex and entered her bed to sexually assault her without consent. She also reported instances where he threw objects at her and slammed her against a wall.

A third woman, who used the pseudonym “Jane,” dated Combs from 2021 to 2024. She testified about “hotel nights,” which allegedly were sexual rendezvous arranged by Combs. Combs reportedly watched these encounters, which Jane said she had to be under the influence of drugs to participate.

The defense did not call a single witness to testify. Instead, they presented texts between Combs and the alleged victims, which they believe proved the sex encounters were consensual and non-coercive.

They compared Combs and Ventura to “swingers” — and claimed the issues in their relationship stemmed from Combs dating other women, not from the alleged “freak offs.”

Combs’ sentencing is scheduled for October 3. It is unclear when the judge will rule on Combs’ latest motion.
