Hamilton County’s lead prosecutor, Connie Pillich, clarified that although Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge mentioned charges against five individuals in connection to a weekend assault, these charges have yet to be filed in court.

Speaking to Fox News Digital, Pillich confirmed her understanding that five people had been detained, but her office has not received details regarding the specific allegations.

The charges relate to a Friday night incident near Elm and Fourth Streets, which garnered widespread attention after videos of the assault circulated on social media platforms.

Footage shared online shows two assailants confronting a man in a white T-shirt, eventually pushing him to the ground. While on the ground, the man endured several kicks but managed to stand up later.

During a press conference, Chief Theetge criticized the role of social media, pointing out that edited clips of the downtown attack went viral. She mentioned that although over 100 onlookers recorded the event, only one individual contacted 911. By the time police reached the scene, the violence had ceased.

“The idea that nobody called 911…I think is part of the culture that we’re in right now where we want to record everything, and I don’t know what people do with those recordings,” Pillich said. “But calling 911 has got to be what we do first. 911’s been around for decades, way earlier than this century was arriving here. People should know 911, and perhaps this is a very good reminder to everyone that we should all call 911 if we see something.”

And despite the police chief saying many people were watching and recording the attack, Pillich said she saw another side not mentioned.

“I can tell you when I looked at a couple of the videos, I saw people yelling, ‘Stop! Stop!’” she said. “I saw [people] pulling people out of the melee. I saw a small amount of people trying to help, and I‘m really glad about those good people who understand that we’re better than this.”
