Rapper Flavor Flav has stepped up to host a celebration for the U.S. women’s hockey team after the players declined an invitation from President Trump. The President had previously downplayed their gold-medal victory against Canada, while giving more focus to the men’s team for securing their first gold in 46 years.
On Monday night, Flav took to social media to extend his offer, proposing a genuine celebration in Las Vegas. He promised “some nice dinners and shows and good times” and extended the invitation to include the American bobsled and skeleton teams as well.
Flavor Flav, whose legal name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., also posted the official invitation sent to the women’s hockey team.
“We observed the men’s White House invite and the less formal invitation for the women’s team,” the message read, expressing Flav’s desire to honor their achievements properly.
The note concluded with an open invitation: “If the team is interested in coming to Las Vegas to celebrate with Flav, we’ll handle the arrangements to ensure a memorable experience.”
Both the U.S. men’s and women’s ice hockey teams clinched gold at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, each securing victories over Canada in thrilling overtime matches.
Following their victory on Sunday, the men’s team received a phone call from Trump, during which the President invited them to the State of the Union on Tuesday night.
“I must tell you, we’re going to have to bring the women’s team, you do know that,” Trump joked, adding that he “probably would be impeached,” if he didn’t invite the women’s team as well.
The Women’s Team declined Trump’s offer the next day, citing “the timing and previously scheduled academic and professional commitments following the Games.”
