Jacksonville woman arrested after allegedly punching trooper during ICE confrontation, Florida AG says

A woman named Jennifer Cruz was apprehended on Tuesday, facing multiple charges such as assaulting police officers and resisting arrest with violence.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jennifer Cruz, a Jacksonville resident, is under scrutiny with over a dozen charges following an alleged altercation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.

Cruz was detained and held at the Duval County jail on Tuesday, January 13th.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier shared a photo on X, showing Cruz being subdued by ICE agents outside Mi Pueblo, a grocery store specializing in Mexican products located on Beach Boulevard.

“Jennifer disagreed with immigration enforcement and chose to commit several felonies by exiting her vehicle and punching a Trooper in the face,” Uthmeier commented. “However, unlike Minnesota, we do not tolerate such behavior. Not today, Jennifer.”

The charges against her include several counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with violence, and making threats of harm to officers, among other accusations.

The arrest comes as confrontations between ICE agents and citizens appear to be increasing due to unrest over an increase in enforcement and the deadly shooting of Renee Good by an agent in Minneapolis.

People on social media have been warning for days about ICE activity in areas of Jacksonville. A City of Jacksonville employee was placed on administrative leave for an alleged social media policy violation after speaking about it on Instagram Live. Hispanic Outreach Coordinator Yanira “Yaya” Cardona claimed ICE was placing speed traps around the city, and stated that immigration officers have been seen on Emerson Street, Beach Boulevard and Atlantic Boulevard.

First Coast News is working to get more information about the confrontation involving Cruz, as well as her arrest report.

She bonded out of jail on Wednesday.
