A Florida man found guilty of murdering his estranged wife’s sister and parents and then setting their home ablaze 35 years ago is scheduled to be executed next month, potentially increasing Florida’s leading number of executions this year to 12.

David Pittman, 63, is set to be executed on Sept. 17 under a death warrant signed by Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday.

Pittman was convicted in 1991 of three counts of first-degree murder, in addition to charges of arson and grand theft, following the killings that took place a year earlier.

Pittman is on track to become the 12th individual executed in Florida this year, alongside Kayle Bates and Curtis Windom, whose executions are also slated for later this month.

With an execution in July, Florida has surpassed other states in executions this year, reaching a total of 9. Texas and South Carolina both share the second-highest number, with four executions each.

Before this year, Florida’s previous record for executions in a year since the death penalty was restored in 1976 was eight in 2014.
