Ex-Hamas hostage documents her journey from hopelessness to homecoming with music

Daniella Gilboa, a former Hamas hostage and surveillance soldier from Kibbutz Nahal Oz, has launched her music career with the release of her first single, “Where Everything Ends.” This milestone comes roughly a year after she was freed from captivity in Gaza.

Abducted on October 7, 2023, alongside several fellow soldiers, Gilboa endured 477 days in captivity. Her debut song is a poignant reflection of her journey from darkness to a renewed sense of hope and a return to normalcy as she focuses on rebuilding her life and pursuing her passion for music.

At the time of her abduction, Gilboa was just 19 years old, one of seven female soldiers captured during the Hamas assault on the northwestern Negev region.

During her captivity, she was coerced into recording a video feigning her death. In an interview with Israel’s Channel 13, Gilboa shared that she and the other hostages found solace in maintaining certain traditions. They learned to recite “Shalom Aleichem” in Arabic and insisted on performing the Shabbat evening blessing over wine, even if it meant using water instead.
