Four cars crash into Jacksonville woman's home

Four Vehicles Collide with Woman’s House in Jacksonville

Jacqueline Curry urges action after her home endured four vehicle crashes, prompting FDOT’s plan for a traffic signal by 2027.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville woman says her home has been hit by cars four times…and she’s had enough.

For more than a decade, Jacqueline Curry has lived near the intersection of Dunn avenue and Braddock road.

However in recent years, she said that the intersection has become a direct threat to her safety and her home.

“The first instance, I believe, occurred sometime around 2019 when a car drove straight through the intersection and crashed into my garage, damaging this wall of the garage.”

Since then there have been three more crashes, all drivers losing control at the busy intersection and slamming into her home.

“The third accident happened when a car landed here after becoming airborne and crashed entirely through my home,” Curry explained.

The most recent incident involving a car crashing into her garage transpired on the morning of Saturday, September 20th. Fortunately, no one inside her house was injured, although the driver suffered injuries.

Curry has tried everything she can. She brought boulders to place in her front yard, pleaded with the city….

On Tuesday, she presented her concerns to the City Council, stating, “This marks the fourth time a vehicle has crossed Braddock Road and Dunn Avenue, colliding with my house.”

Curry even lost her homeowners insurance, after the third crash.

“I had a contractor that came out today and he said that the house is starting to collapse,” she said.

After speaking with Curry, First Coast News reached out to the Florida department of transportation.

FDOT informed us that they evaluate reported accidents and plan necessary improvements accordingly. They also mentioned plans to install a traffic signal at the intersection of Dunn Ave and Braddock Road.

“Ideally, I would like to see a roundabout at that location to slow down traffic from all directions,” Curry noted, “A traffic light would be beneficial, but if someone runs the light, it could happen again.”

While a signal light is planned, Curry hopes that additional changes will be made soon before another crash happens.

“I would really love to see happen and not for us to have to wait 18, 20 years for it to happen because we’ve been asking for this,” she said.

According to FDOT, the traffic signal they plan on installing at this intersection is part of their resurfacing project that’s expected to be completed in late 2027.
