Frankie Montas has a lot to celebrate this week.
The right-handed starter gushed over his wife Nicholette Montas on her birthday Monday — hours before the Athletics traded him and righty reliever Lou Trivino to the Yankees ahead of the Tuesday trade deadline.
“Happy birthday to the most beautiful, strong, loving woman I ever meet in my life,” Montas wrote on Instagram, including a collage of photos that featured the couple and their son Michael and daughter Ellie.

“Thank you for always being there for me you have play one of the most important part on my baseball career you always keep on pushing me to be the best I can be love you so much my love god truly bless me with you te amo mami.”
The couple — which celebrated their third wedding anniversary in January — will now prepare to move from Oakland to New York.
The Yankees sent four minor leaguers to Oakland for Montas and Trevino: Left-hander Ken Waldichuk, right-hander Luis Medinam, lefty JP Sears and second baseman Cooper Bowman.

“I feel great. I’m really excited about it,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “[Montas] is a great pitcher. There’s been rumors around him most of the first half of the season. I’m excited we were able to push through on a deal for him. His level of talent, especially with how he’s pitched the last couple of years, I’m just excited to get him into the mix.”
That same day, the Yankees added to their bullpen when they acquired right-handed reliever Scott Effross from the Cubs in exchange for righty Hayden Wesneski, who had been the team’s No. 7 prospect.

Montas was 4-9 with a 3.18 ERA in 19 starts for Oakland. The 29-year-old allowed 91 hits and 44 runs (37 earned), with 12 homers in 104 2/3 innings — and struck out 109 batters against 28 walks.
The right-hander finished sixth in AL Cy Young voting last year after going 13-9 with a 3.37 ERA and 207 strikeouts in 187 innings.
Montas is arbitration-eligible after the 2023 season and can become a free agent in 2024.
